Focus undertook project and partnership development on the reinterpretation of the Broxtowe Estate Church to make it the focal point of community regeneration through a new Hope Centre.
Although modest in scope this project had repercussions across the UK as it was the first time a worship centre was accepted as eligible for regeneration funding in the light of the community benefits it delivered.
It therefore opened the door for a whole new sector, including the £1.2 million Thornbury Centre in Bradford, which was rebuilt with SRB and ERDF after the original church collapsed through subsidence.
The Hope Centre was created with the assistance of the European Commission, the Church of England, English Partnerships and local fund raising.
