The Maidstone Public Realm Project aimed to improve how the High Street looks, feels and works – with less road space for vehicles and a new public space in front of the Town Hall.
The wider pavements and new crossing points make the street more people friendly whilst maintaining access for buses, taxis, loading vehicles and blue badge holders. High quality surfaces on the pavements, crossings and new space attract shoppers and tourists, encouraging these to relax and spend time there.
Focus was also appointed for Maidstone’s lower high street, bringing this area to the same quality – receiving praise from the local community and Council during the Jubilee and Olympics.
