Driving Social Value Through Fundraising and Community Support

As we celebrate our 30th Anniversary we reflect on our commitment to social responsibility both corporate and via projects we deliver within the built environment, influencing activity from establishing net-zero goals to engaging with the community and supporting meaningful causes. Over three decades Focus has consistently supported local charities, promoted youth skills, and volunteered our time.

Our approach has been varied – the infographic covers just a selection of the interventions from our history, not least demonstrated in this year’s donation of £6,000 via match funding for Base51, also recently celebrating 30 years, through the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge.

Our volunteering day release scheme for staff to support their own communities and passions launched in 2021, with enthusiastic staff participating in projects ranging from habitat conservation and apple picking to tree planting and school outings. These efforts are a testament to the strong public spirit that has been a hallmark of Focus for 30 years.

In alignment with our dedication to providing employment and education opportunities, we regularly host pro bono lectures and seminars, collaborating with institutions like Nottingham Trent University. Through successful partnerships with educators, various student work placements help to inspire young people into our industry.

Environmental considerations are, and always have been, central to our vision. In addition to our own operational goals, our sustainability team works with clients to reduce energy usage in both the construction and regeneration of buildings plus their ongoing operation. We guide our clients in creating a procurement strategy to help ensure a sustainable supply chain, using locally employed labour where possible to support the region’s economy and offer long term hope to heritage assets by development of sustainable strategies for their next chapter. In fact, our anniversary celebrations will be held at the site of one of our very first projects, the National Justice Museum, Nottingham.

As we celebrate this significant milestone, we remain committed to the values that have brought us here, ensuring that Focus not only grows but also contributes positively to the world around us.
