Staff Spotlight – Caroline Jenkins & Lorraine Wallis

As part of our #30Yearsin30Days campaign, we’re celebrating two of our long-serving team members who have played a vital role in the smooth running of Focus!

Caroline Jenkins (Accounts Manager) and Lorraine Wallis (Senior Administrator) have been with us since 2005 and 2000 respectively. Together, they’ve navigated multiple office moves, welcomed over 200 staff members, and even kept the office running during Covid. Their work on setting up our Sub-Consultant Purchase Order process has been key in streamlining our operations.

Beyond the office, Caroline enjoys modern jive dancing and local history, while Lorraine is an active leader at her local Brownie Pack and enjoys spending time at her allotment.

Their dedication and contributions reflect the camaraderie and family-like culture we cherish at Focus.

Read on to discover more about their time with Focus.

BACKGROUND:

Caroline started working for Focus through Sue Webb’s bookkeeping company in December 2003 having worked with Sue for just over 12 years. Caroline was taken on permanently in September 2005 as Accounts Administrator as the company was growing fast. Outside of Focus you may well find her on a modern jive dance floor or at the Farnsfield local history society event.

Lorraine started on a temporary contract in October 1999 was made permanent in January of the following year after much badgering from Karl & Kevin. She has now nearly served 25 years!! In her spare time Lorraine is Snowy Owl at her local Brownie Pack and also spends time at the allotment.

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS:

  • Between them they set up the Sub-Consultant Purchase Order process which has been successful in tightening up procedures.

NOTABLE EVENTS:

  • Have moved offices twice as well as moving around the current office on numerous occasions!
  • Caroline ran the office during Covid.
  • Between them they have attended some of the 23 Focus weddings and have been introduced to 21 Focus babies over the years.
  • We have welcomed over 200 staff and seen many go on to pastures new.

PERSONAL INSIGHTS:

  • Motivation: Ensure the smooth running of the admin and accounts departments.
  • Memorable Moments: 7 mile walk that turned into 11; the elegancy of rear ends up a climbing wall; fun walks in the pouring rain then having to sit for dinner in wet clothes; treasure hunts around Nottingham.
  • Fun Fact: Caroline is the oldest member of staff they have ever had and Lorraine is the longest serving employee.
  • Favourite Focus Days: For Lorraine it was Edinburgh 2005 – flight was delayed so just had enough time in Edinburgh for lunch but no time for sightseeing, it was a long way to travel for a lunch date. Caroline’s favourite was The Adrenalin Jungle July in 2016 particularly the blind driving experience.
  • Why we love working at Focus: The strong comradery and the feeling of being part of a big family. It’s nice to see youngsters come to work for the company and see them being nurtured and watch them progress up through the company.
