Support Focus as we embark on a carbon-free 1725-mile journey to raise money for the Disasters Emergency Committee
It’s hard to escape the challenges the world currently faces be it conflict or climate related. Focus were eager to show their support and being the creative, fun and active team that we are, wished to go one step further, creating an exciting challenge in the process to raise as much awareness and money as possible, during our #SpringChallenge2022 for the DEC.
The DEC is a partnership of 15 leading UK charities that provide food, medical care, and shelter to refugees and vulnerable people. It is one of the most effective organisations in the world in delivering aid in times of crisis. They have helped those impacted by major global events for decades, and are currently running appeals for Ukraine and Afghanistan. In a nod to ongoing war in Ukraine, which dominates the news currently, we have selected that distance for our target.
Being unashamedly passionate about reducing carbon emissions and protecting the environment, our UK-based 1725-mile journey will be carbon-free, using as many forms of man-powered transport as possible. Whether it’s walking, running, cycling, swimming, rowing or maybe even on roller skates, every little bit counts in this huge team effort.
You can find out here how your support can make a difference. Home | Disasters Emergency Committee (dec.org.uk) £10 can buy essential hygiene supplies for one person for a month and £20 can provide emergency food for one person for one month.
As well as raising money through our dedicated JustGiving page, we hope to raise more at our Homecoming Celebration Tea Party through a bake sale and raffle at our offices in Nottingham and London.
Be sure to stay up to date with our progress via Twitter and LinkedIn as we share stories and photos from our journey and don’t forget to click on the link to give a donation and message of support.
So, without further ado, on your marks, get set, GO TEAM FOCUS!
Journey Update
As we reach the half way point our teams’ tally currently stands at an amazing 943 miles!
Our London team successfully avoided the hail and thunder on Tuesday afternoon to complete a 3-mile loop from their office in Waterloo, cross-country to London Bridge, and back round again to the London Eye following The Thames Path – which provided a wonderful backdrop for their walk.
Whether it’s touring Spain or travelling to site visits by bike, getting off a stop earlier on the tube or doing the daily school run on foot – it all helps to ensure the miles are adding up.
Well done to everyone’s efforts so far!
