Transforming Eastbourne: A Landmark £50 Million Regeneration Project

As we continue our 30 Years in 30 Days campaign, we reflect on a standout project that showcases the scale and diversity of our team’s expertise. Our work with Eastbourne Borough Council on the £50 million Devonshire Park redevelopment project underscores our ability to manage complex, multi-faceted developments across multiple sectors. In this instance, leisure, the arts, landscaping, and local authority, which makes it a key example within our portfolio.

The project included the refurbishment of the Grade II Devonshire Park Theatre, the Winter Gardens and the Grade II Congress Theatre*. Additionally, we oversaw the construction of a new Welcome Building with state-of-the-art conferencing amenities, and the development of an international tennis centre with world-class courts and public spaces.

Appointed from the start, Focus conducted a scoping study that shaped the whole project. Our role continued through brief refinement, obtaining statutory consents, and securing Cabinet approvals and finally through to fit-out and doors opening.

Reflecting on this milestone project, Partner Eleanor Clarke added:  “The scale and complexity of this regeneration project made it a cornerstone in our portfolio. Our ability to manage a wide array of stakeholders, including Historic England and the Lawn Tennis Association, while delivering state-of-the-art conferencing and leisure facilities, is something we take immense pride in. The continued success of these venues speaks to the lasting impact of this project on the local community and tourism.”

This project is just one example of how, over the past three decades, Focus has consistently delivered large-scale, multi-disciplinary projects that create lasting value for local communities.
