The new 23,745 sq. ft. facility is located in a busy industrial area and involved close liaison with the local occupiers. Other significant aspects in the area required four Tree Protection Zones to be retained across the site.
As BREEAM sustainability champion, Focus attended key progress meetings during construction, reminding the project team of the BREEAM objectives for the development – including a comprehensive ecological protection strategy for mature trees bordering the site, and the detailed monitoring of energy, water consumption and waste generation, minimising the use of natural resources as far as possible.
Focus also completed the non-domestic energy assessment for Part L compliance, providing a one stop shop for all sustainability – overseeing air-tightness testing and thermographic imaging, thus providing robust evidence of the thermal integrity of the building. The unit features Porotherm Clay Blocks with high insulation properties and an air handling unit which is managed by its own Building Management System and will recycle the building’s warm air.
