North Hertfordshire College invested £12m in new sports and teaching facilities for student and community use at their Hitchin centre with funding support from CALA Homes through the sale of a portion of land on site.

Focus provided a quality review of works completed and compliance with technical drawings as well as commentary on contractor’s design proposals to check for compliance with the contractual requirements, current regulation and general good practice guidance. This ensures that works are being completed to mitigate the risk of future building defects, an area that Focus, with a core background in Building Surveying, excel at.

As part of our role, we also recorded progress on site against the programme, which can help reduce the risk of contractual claims for extension of time. This client in particular had Sport England funding towards the project and needed to provide the facilities within a stipulated timeframe to receive the grant funding.  Focus also co-ordinated the snagging and handover process and ensured contractual obligations were met.
