The Engine Shed is a Grade II Listed building, sitting on contaminated brownfield land on the former Avon manufacturing site in Northampton town centre. It is in one of only two Enterprise Zones in the East Midlands and has been unused for over 25 years.
The University of Northampton Students’ Union had a plan to bring the Engine Shed back into use as a vibrant hub of student activity and for enhanced engagement with local businesses. Focus provided consultancy support and advice for the Heritage Lottery Fund Round 1 bid including development appraisal, business case, activity statement, evaluation baseline data, governance review and bid writing. Focus subsequently worked with the Client to develop the Heritage Lottery Fund Round 2 application to the point of submission.
The conversion of the derelict railway engine shed built in the 1800’s into the home of the Students’ Union at the University of Northampton was nominated for and won multiple awards and achieved BREEAM ‘Excellent’.
