Focus provided a multi-disciplinary role to the Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales at their landmark St Fagan’s site. Opened in 1948, St Fagan’s was the first open-air museum in the UK and is now the most popular heritage attraction in Wales. Focus supported the client at the site in Cardiff which, at £11.55 million, was the HLF’s largest grant award in Wales when it was awarded.
The museum has been transformed into a world-class, participatory, inclusive and unique museum and visitor attraction. The Grade II-Listed Gweithdy, which sits amongst historical buildings in Grade I Listed woodlands, provides an eco-friendly opportunity for creativity, a new entrance, reception area, shop and café. The courtyard has also been brought back into use. The Weston Centre for Learning includes activity spaces and a lecture theatre.
The project also includes a new pavilion to provide an exciting activity and exhibition space, site wide interpretation, exhibition works and the development of a historic and listed landscape.
