Focus were appointed for the ‘Hidden Treasures, Fresh Expressions’ Project at Rochester Cathedral to progress the project through the development phase and a second-round application to the HLF for implementation. The project uses the cathedral’s nationally significant artefacts and collections to create an exhibition area in the Crypt and the reconfiguration of the library -both incredibly atmospheric and architecturally impressive spaces now sympathetically opened to improve access for all with the introduction of a platform lift.
The excavations for the project unearthed a significant amount of archaeology, parts expected such as Roman footings beneath the Crypt floor, others less so, such as a Norman archway beneath the South Quire. The latter is now revealed and preserved for all to appreciate.
