As a business we have a duty to protect the environment. Embracing this responsibility, we help our clients and strive to continuously improve on sustainable practice. Not only have the Corporate Team been measuring and monitoring progress under the ISO 14001 environmental management system for many years, but we are also on a pathway to Carbon Neutrality – setting a fast approaching target of 2026 – with ongoing activities to capture and reduce the core Scope 3 emission streams within our business operations and educate our teams, alongside Gold Standard Carbon Offsets for Scope 1 & 2 emissions.
Our charitable ventures take a deliberately sustainable and educational slant, and we monitor resource use to minimise waste and maximise full life utilisation and recycling / refurbishment where possible – with great success in our head office fitout. A hybrid working model enables us to reduce commuter and business miles, which assists carbon reduction aims and means cleaner air and congestion management locally. This also benefits staff wellbeing both physically and mentally.

Ongoing development of additional staff benefits continues, beyond the upcoming changes under evolving employment law, as we continue to build our culture of support and work flexibility. Our policies and procedures are refreshed regularly to more clearly demonstrate our commitments, meet best practice, and train staff in a philosophy of good business ethics. We have increased our corporate auditing practices to help understand any areas for improvement and to get the most out of what we do well, like highlighting the importance of maintaining good Mental Health and building staff skills. We continue to improve our recruitment, induction and probation activities, so everyone gets a strong start to their career with Focus.
For further information, our relevant core Policies are downloadable via this website.
We seek to meaningfully engage with those around us, whether via careers fairs or guest lecturing or mentoring for, as an example, Nottingham Trent University via our Partnership Agreement.
Through strong relationships with educators, we’re able to offer work experience, intern placements, apprenticeships and sponsored training, providing a path into careers within our varied sector and helping create a dynamic, inclusive and diverse workplace. We also offer business to business networking and CPD and speak at construction events to help keep our industry informed and current.
Focus’ greatest asset is its team, growing year on year, with several new hires across the business just completing probation or heading towards this milestone. Our internal CPD seminar programme continues monthly, and in response to staff feedback, we run a popular quarterly full company meeting to discuss news, successes, and project highlights so we all stay informed and maintain team cohesion as we grow.

Staff love a charity event to bond with teammates and give back to the community. Watch out for for our next annual collective effort, following the success of our previous efforts on behalf of such recipients as The DEC, local youth charity Base 51 and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Our day release volunteering scheme also allows individuals or small groups to support local and regional enterprises like parks, animal shelters, schools, food distribution and more. This is on top of Social Value commitments via our projects and attendance at fundraisers that help our clients and working partners to meet their own targets.
Updates on our progress in this area, and all ESG interventions will be available throughout the year.
