Focus were retained as part of the development and implementation of the Creative Industries Cultural Quarter in the St George’s Conservation Area. The programme involved a series of highways, public art and public space improvements designed to improve attractiveness, pedestrian access and encourage footfall into the Cultural Quarter.
Through interpretation, themed trails, public art, quality paving, traffic calming and the renowned humming bollards around the Curve Theatre, the public realm gives a sense of place to the Quarter and links Curve with the Leicester Creative Business Depot, Phoenix Place and other essential regeneration projects.
Focus secured just under £1 million from the EU Objective 2 Programme which was matched with funding from the Government’s Liveability Fund and private sector Section 106 funding.
As part of the development we undertook extensive negotiations with Leicester City Council Planning Department, the Government Office for the East Midlands, English Heritage, CABE and local stakeholders in order to ensure that the requirements of Strategic Planning Guidance and the sensitivities of the Conservation Area.
