A key aim of the project was the need for a new arts/cultural venue which can be used flexibly to host not only large-scale performances through the expanding Festival and Arts economy, but also small space workshops and performances required to meet residents and government agendas to expand cultural access.
As project manager and quantity surveyor, Focus oversaw the conservatory works at the Pavilion Gardens as well as the upgrading of the performance space.
Specific works included implementation of safety measures/ protocols including structural and access scaffolding and specialist armoured suits to undertake the glass removal works; archaeological and photographic recording of the conservatory; removal of the glass and dismantling of the cast iron structure, including labelling for reconstruction; offsite production of new mouldings and replacement members/components as required; reconstruction of the conservatory with approximately 50% re-use; re-glazing the conservatory; interpretation works to relay the significance of the conservatory.
